Henry Sweet Society
The annual colloquium of the Society took place on Friday 28 April at the University of Westminster. 16 papers on the history of linguistics were delivered, including the Leslie Seiffert Lecture by Helena Sanson on Women in the History of Italian Linguistics. Deborah Cameron gave the inaugural lecture of the Westminster Forum for Language and Linguistics.
Anna Pytlowany (University of Amsterdam) has won the 2016 Vivien Law Prize for an essay in the history of linguistics ideas. Anna’s essay is titled “Searching for the models for the first grammar of Hindustani (Ketelaar 1698)”.
Prof. Aditi Lahiri FBA (Oxford) has been elected President of the Philological Society, succeeding Prof. Wendy Ayres-Bennett (Cambridge).
